Although thyroid surgery is a relatively safe procedure, it may be associated with some clinically concerning postoperative complications, including cervical hematoma, incision infection, hypocalcemia, and in cases vocal cord paralysis. Of these, the development of hematoma lead to symptoms compression causing airway obstruction, respiratory distress, or even death due suffocation. Therefore, post-thyroidectomy requires emergency management. Postoperative care includes attention drain, careful monitoring recovery room appreciation subtle signs distress. Prevention early intervention can avoid fatal complications. Thyroid clean procedure because infection rate very low. For these reasons, antibiotic prophylaxis not routinely recommended by most international guidelines. However, antibiotics are rarely used clinical practice rates as high 50% cases. Despite its low incidence, surgical site (frequently caused Group A Streptococcus) especially proximity vital head neck structures real potential for compromise death.
